McGee says Andy Bell plays guitar like Jimmy Page

Perhaps he means to say that Andy and Page are similarly talented at the guitar rather than that they sound similar. Having listened to Ride, I would not have made that comparison. What do others think though - was having Andy on bass in Oasis akin to taking Jimmy Page's guitar and putting him on tambourine? What can be expected from Andy's guitar playing in Beady Eye?

If he can play guitar as well as Page (but not necessarily sound like him) then he should start showing it. Bring in some solos that are better than Oasis' best. I know that's not saying much but beat Slide Away or Live Forever's solos Bell!

Tbh I've never really heard what jimmy Page can do, but if you can get a hold of Separation sunday by Hurricane #1 you'll hear what Andy can do its not on youtube though

Andy Bell's a highly capable and talented guitar player amongst other things, his playing on record and live with Ride, Hurricane#1, Oasis and his other work with Idha, The Creation, DK7, The Most etc is testament to that, though I'd say his playing is more about chord shapes and sounds rather than just riffing or soloing away.

Andy can definitely knock out 1st class riffs and solo's . Check out his Hurricane #1 solos on Chain Reaction , Step into my world and Keep walking in particular. The guitar's in Ride tunes speaks for themselves too. Get the Hurricane #1 anthology for Andy's best guitar playing in my opinion.

I thought he just covered The Creation, with Ride? And who are DK7 and the Most? never heard this mentioned before

Andy played in a reformed version of the Creation in the 90's replacing Eddie Phillips when he pulled out. He was interviewed for The book " our music is red with purple flashes. You can still get this on Amazon .

Andy Bell is a f**king legend. Really delighted he will be moving back on to guitar - exciting times.

If anyone is unfamiliar with his guitar playing, check out the albums "Nowhere", "Going Blank" and "Carnival of Light" from his days in Ride - the lad knows his way about a fret board as well as a fine craftsman of music.
