THE '10' Albums.

THE '10' Albums.

Postby JackWMS » 20 Mar 2011, 00:42

I was thinking the other day about how much of a state music was at the moment, it's shocking. The Bieber came on the telly and I though: If I could just give him 10 records that he'd have to lock himself in a room with and listen to none stop for a week, then maybe he'd rethink his entire career or just do us all a favour and end his own useless life.

Then I thought of my 10 albums and had to make it 15 hahaha, This isn't my favourites at all... just 15 albums that best represent music (all based upon genres I like though).

The Beatles - Revolver ''Where it starts for me, Yeah records were made before, but come on... this!''
The Kinks are the Village Green..''If the UK is the heart of music, you cannot forget the most British record ever.''
The Stooges - Funhouse ''An album that if made in the right environment would have seen punk born 6 years early, Instead we waited until 70's''
David Bowie - Aladin Sane ''Sheer glam perfection''
New York Dolls - New York Dolls ''Glam perfection with badly played Stones guitars, Punk? FuckYeah!''
Toots & Maytals - Funky Kingston ''Reggae is great, Hasn't evolved much but this record's where it's at. you try not to smile whilst it's playing!
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks ''Nothing before, nothing after, has ever been so revolutionary in music. No explanation needed really.''
The Clash - London Calling ''When punks learnt how to play!''
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation... ''Hip-Hop has f**ked music up but 79-90's it was a great genre''
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead ''The Smiths, Wonderful tunes, great guitar and Morissey.....''
Primal Scream - Screamadelica ''The true genre mashing album,Dance/rock/rave/dub in one massive dose of happiness''
Oasis - Definitely Maybe ''Rock 'n Roll like we hadn't seen in far too long, Working class had a voice''
The Libertines - Up the Bracket ''Rock 'n Roll 100%, Amazing sound''
The Streets - Original Pirate Material ''An urban poet, Lyrics kids can relate to again and a real sense of DIY
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say...''Only if you could mash The Libs sound and Streets lyrics... WAIT here it is, One of my favourites ever and one of the only genuinely exciting music experiences I have witnessed. No record collection should be without!

It brakes my heart to leave a few albums out, but in my mind that sums up nearly 45 years of (my) popular music.

Fancy a go?

YAY, someone found my old thread! Nice choices to, two Turner albums :DAND Seahorses, a great album and an underrated one at that!

I'd probably have to change mine now. Swap Funhouse for The Stooges, their much better debut. Change Aladin Sane to Ziggy Stardust and put Loveless by My Bloody Valentine in their, maybe replacing PE or Toots... I can't decide. Too hard!

How about 10 more "current" albums?
Dum Dum Girls - I Will Be
The Black Keys - Brothers
Kasabian - Velociraptor
The Kills - Blood Pressures
The Raveonettes - Raven In The Grave
The Duke Spirit - Bruiser
The Coral - Butterfly House
Giant Drag - Swan Song EP
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You
Gorillaz - The Fall (because apparently the first 3 albums didn't get the point across)

I thought I'd do this again with some of my favorite albums.

1) Johnny Cash - I Walk The Line > Cash transcends genre (and heavily influenced the Rock'n'Roll and Punk aesthetic and attitude).

2) The Beatles - Revolver > Tomorrow Never Knows is the precursor to Electro-Rock.

3) Miles Davis - The Complete Birth Of The Cool > This album (from the title, to the cover art, to the sound) is one every music fan ought to give a spin.

4) The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? > Jimi inspired/influenced the greatest musicians of his time and hasn't stopped inspiring/influencing since.

5) The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico > Venus In Furs.

6) The Stooges - Raw Power > To Punk as the Velvets are to psychedelia.

7) Roxy Music - Country Life > The album covers alone are worth the price of the recordings. The tunes are even better.

8) The Clash - Combat Rock > Punks dance.

9) Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures > ...

10) The Pixies - Doolittle > One of the best 4-piece bands ever.

tough question cause i change my mood for music often, but at the moment:

Oasis - Don't believe the truth - it started for me with this one
The Stooges - Raw Power - the song gimme danger alone is worth 4 great albums
Grinderman - 2 - pure noise psychedelia, how i love it
The Beatles - Abbey Road - mccartneys climax
The Who - Who's next - great sound, great songs, great band
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to paralyze - very nice feeling this album delivers
The Black Angels - phosphene dream - MAGIC!!!
John Lee Hooker - plays the blues - love his dirty style and lyrics about killin somebody in a badass way
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers - SIIIISTER MORPHINE !!!
Darker my love - 2 - great neo psychedelia! love it especially "all the hurry and wait"

i know its already ten but if there would be another album it would be anything by the brilliant Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and i have to say, that "Different gear, still speeding" by Beady Eye was really big pleasure and one of the most heard albums in the last years for me. it's not groundbreaking but the songs have sould and thats important!
